Three Steps for Easy Carpet Care
Your carpet takes a beating every day! Whether in your home or office, people are tracking in dirt and germs from outside, and constant spilling. However, with the proper care, your carpet will last for many years. Here are three preventative steps you can perform to care for your carpet:

Step One: Vacuuming

Did you know that that 90% of all the pollutants in a home are found in the carpet? That is why regular vacuuming is so important it not only helps to extend the life of carpet but it promotes good health for you and your family? 79% of all soil in the carpet is particulate soil which vacuuming removes. Vacuuming helps to preserve the fluffiness of the carpet fibers, helping them to stand back up.

Step Two: Spot Treatment

1. Pick up any solids; then blot liquids with a clean sponge, dry white cloth or white paper towel, starting from the outside of the spot, and continuing to blot toward the center until area is barely damp.
2. Do not scrub or rub the spill, the carpet fibers may fuzz or change texture, which will damage the carpet.
3. Use a product recommended by your carpet manufacturer use the Little Luxuries Green spotter. Always pretest any cleaner on a carpet swatch or in a hidden area of the carpet, just in case.
4. Apply a small amount of the product, and gently blot from the edges of the spot towards the center. This process can be repeated if necessary.

Step Three: Professional Cleaning

If you find that, no matter how much you vacuum or spot clean, your carpet still does not look like it used to, then it may be time for a deep cleaning. However, even if your carpets still “look” good, if it has been 12-18 months since your last professional cleaning, it’s time to schedule again.
While it is an option to rent a carpet cleaning machine and do it yourself, hiring a professional is the safest option and will produce the best results. With regular professional cleaning, your carpets will look great for years.

To keep your carpet at peak performance and to maintain your carpet warranty, many carpet manufacturers recommend professional cleaning every 12-18 months. Call Little Luxuries your Green Certified Company now to schedule your appointment @ 204-795-9835

Are your cleaning products safe?
One of many problems with soaps and detergents for carpet care is that they leave a soapy, sticky residue, which causes rapid re-soiling and particle loading. This results in quickly re-dirtied carpet and unhealthy indoor air quality. Over-use of carpet-cleaning detergents causes the need for premature carpet replacement. Said simply, when you use soaps or detergents, you are not cleaning — you are polluting the environment we live in. With “soap-free cleaning,” carpets stay cleaner longer, feel softer and dry more quickly, because it eliminates sticky, moisture-holding residue that takes forever to dry.

That is why we use soap free, Procyon Extreme Carpet Cleaner a Green Seal Certified product that is also Indoor Air Quality approved and has the Carpet Rug Seal of approval as well.

It’s our commitment to your health and adherence to the highest standards in the carpet and upholstery cleaning industry that sets us apart from others.

How long will my carpet take to dry?
In most cases carpets dry in 1-8 hours. This depends on the humidity, temperature of the home, the thickness of the carpet and how badly soiled the carpets are. It also depends on the carpet cleaning method used.

Tip: If quick dry times are a concern ask about our green low moisture encapsulation cleaning.

Can I walk on the carpets after cleaning?
Yes. Most often, newly cleaned carpets will be slightly damp to the touch. If at all possible, we recommend giving your carpet a few hours to dry before heavy traffic.

Tip: We normally provide free of charge booties that can be worn to walk on freshly cleaned carpet.

Warning, please use extreme caution when walking from freshly cleaned carpets to any hard surfaces. Damp feet can be a slipping hazard.

Should I move anything?
Yes, we ask for lamps, plants, all ornaments, pictures and breakables to be removed from the areas being cleaned.
Do you move furniture?
Yes. We will move most furniture and tables (sofas, chairs, tables etc.) We cannot move larger pieces like pianos, entertainment cabinets, computer desks, china cabinets, armories or large beds that are not on casters.
How long will the job take to do?
Your satisfaction is our concern our technician stay as long as it takes to complete the job to your satisfaction.

Time to clean carpet varies depending on how soiled your carpets are, how thick the pile is, the type of carpet fibre, and the size and shape of your home, office and building. Often, if there are many items that need moving, this can impact your cleaning time as well.

We always work as fast as possible and guarantee you will be satisfied. If we take a little longer to make sure the job is done right, we know you’ll appreciate the difference our attention to detail makes!

Tip: Are you a busy restaurant or expecting company? Tell us in advance that time is an important factor and we will work with your schedule. Some of our cleaning equipment works faster than others. Encapsulation technology allows your carpets to dry in less than 2 hours!!

How often do I need to clean my carpet?
Most carpet manufacturers recommend that carpets be cleaned every 18-24 months. However, if you have children, pets, light coloured carpets or are subject to allergies, you may need to have your carpets cleaned more frequently.

Why is this important?

Over time, soil sinks into the bottom of your carpets and begins to break down the glue and fibre that holds your carpet together. Also, soils and stains adhere to the fibre itself and can cause premature wearing. This can greatly reduce the life of your carpet, costing thousands to replace.

Tip: It’s easier to clean a slightly soiled carpet every 12-18 months than to try and remove soiling from an extremely dirty carpet. Regular cleaning makes your carpets last longer and look newer.

What is the difference between a spot & stain?
Spot – is any foreign material (soil, liquid, etc.) that is removable by standard cleaning methods. (The foreign material is on or around the carpet fiber).

Stain – is foreign substance (soil, liquid, etc.) on the carpet that cannot be removed by normal cleaning methods. This foreign material has penetrated or “soaked into” the fiber and has altered the colour or damaged the fiber such as Kool Aid. Some stains may be impossible to remove. But if they can be removed be assured that Little Luxuries certified technicians will remove them.

Tip: One great way to add additional protection to your carpets after having them cleaning is to use our Green Guard protector on your fabrics and carpets. This extra step, approved by all the major carpet manufacturers, put that extra layer of stain and soil protection back onto the carpet fibre’s surface. It can help reduce staining and allow soil to be released easier next cleaning!

Will your services help my allergies?
Yes, our green cleaning system will help with your allergies. Having your carpet and upholstery cleaned removes many allergens and other pollutants and helps to improve the in-door air quality of your home or business.

Our Green cleaning products are approved by the Indoor Air Quality labs as safer than standard cleaning products.

Did you know?
Carpets offer much more protection for allergy sufferers than standard flooring? It’s proven that carpets, when properly cleaned at regular intervals, will actually have less airborne dust and allergens than a hardwood or laminate floor! The carpet fibre will hold the allergens where a flat shiny surface allows dust to float up into the air when disturbed by airflow or someone walking on it.
